Do Métis people qualify for aboriginal rights in British Columbia?

Dr. Duane Thomson, Associate Professor Emeritus of UBCO, will examine the development of the mixed-ancestry population in New Caledonia during the fur trade and gold rush eras in relation to Supreme Court rulings regarding which individuals qualify for aboriginal rights in Canada.
This presentation is hosted by the Vernon Friends of History and will be held at The Pantry restaurant (3908 32nd Street, next to the Best Western Hotel)  in Vernon, BC on Thursday, May 3, 2012, at 10 a.m. Admission to the presentation is by donation or by purchasing an annual membership ($6.00) to the Friends of History. A no-host luncheon follows the meeting.
Dr. Thomson is a long-time resident of the Okanagan. Vernon-born, Thomson has lived in Penticton, Kelowna, Vernon and Salmon Arm. He currently resides in Oyama and is President of the Lake Country Heritage and Cultural Society.
