Winfield’s settlement history goes back to the spring of 1871 when Thomas Wood, of Bonavista, Newfoundland, arrived after dissolving a ranching partnership with Cornelius O’Keefe and Thomas Greenhow at the head of Okanagan Lake. He pre-empted 160 acres of land at the south end of what became known as Wood Lake where he established a cattle ranch, naming his ranch house ‘Winfield Lodge’.
