Display: Spring Chicks

Spring Chicks displayMany pioneers of Lake Country raised chickens to supplement their income and food supply. This month’s display at the municipal office features vintage egg scales, chicken leg bands, a brooder thermometer, and ‘Ful-o-Pep’ feed sack. There is also a Farm and Garden Handbook, Chicken Rearing and the Management of Incubators, which was published in 1908 and provided ‘reliable information’ and photos on raising chickens. There is a photograph of the egg incubator currently located in the Nellie Carter Room at the Lake Country Museum. It was patented in 1894 and once belonged to early Lake Country resident, Northcote Caesar.
