Display: Kakonosedai: A Century of Community

LCM August DisplayThe display at the District of Lake Country office promotes the Kakonosedai: A Century of Community exhibition currently running at the Museum. A floral kimono and obi are featured in the showcase. These items are on loan from the Teramura family who came to Winfield during the 1930s. A number of tools once belonging to Toyokichi Taiji are also on display. Toyokichi came to Canada in 1919 and helped build several houses in Lake Country. Traditional Haiku, written by early residents Ikue Kobayashi and Tome Hikichi, are shown. Addie Maehara provided these beautiful examples of Japanese calligraphy.
