September 1, 1952. Sixty years ago today the Gallacher Gangsters played a baseball game against the Oyama Juniors team. The Gangsters line-up included Oyama players in their late twenties and thirties – many returned veterans: Yamamoto, Gallacher, Trewhitt, Stephens, Eyles, Gray, Allingham and Kornitsky. The Juniors team were mostly teenagers – Gatzkes, Purdy, Sproule, Butterworth, Remsberry, Kraft, Thomson and Powell. To see the results and which team won the bragging rights, see the accompanying scorecards (click on image to enlarge).
These scorecards are from a Baseball Scorebook that recorded games in the 1951-1953 era when Oyama teams played against Winfield, Rutland and other Oyama teams. Helen and Bernie Gatzke recently donated this Scorebook to the Lake Country Museum.
