Each Flower: 5 petals up to 2 cm (3/4") long and deeply notched into 2 almost square ended lobes; lower half of petals bend at right-angles from broader, notched blade and together with calyx form a tube; where bend occurs is a white frill; 10 stamens; calyx is 5-toothed, tubular, 1.3-1.5 cm (1/2-5/8") long, slightly inflated, pale green with 10 conspicuous purplish ribs
Leaves: Many basal leaves, long, narrow, and spatula shaped, 2.5-7.5 cm (1-3") long and 3-9 mm (1/8-3/8") broad; stem-leaves are opposite and stalkless in 1 or 2 pairs up stem
Stems: Thin, rigid, and slightly sticky haired; may branch at upper leaf-axils
Blooming Period: July - August
Habitat: Dry, open mountain slopes at high elevations
