Each Flower: Sweet-scented, petals, sepals, and lip all waxy white; upper sepal egg-shaped and up to 6 mm (1/4") long and together with slightly smaller lateral petals, forms hood; lateral sepals narrower and more pointed and outcurved; lip up to nearly 1.3 cm (1/2") long, broad at base and abruptly narrowing to project outwards; spur cylindrical and same length as lip
Leaves: Lance-shaped and up full length of stem; lower ones may be up to 20 cm (8") long and are more rounded at tip while upper ones become more pointed and shorter until below flowers they are small and bract-like
Stems: Slender, green, and smooth
Blooming Period: June - September
Habitat: Ditches along mountain roadsides, bogs, swampy areas and wet, marshy alpine meadows where it is usually smaller
