Each Flower: May be over 2.5 cm (1") long; sepals and petals same blue colour with many darker veins; upper sepal forms helmet-like hood, resembling a monk's hood; 2 broad lateral sepals, 2 narrow, pointed lower sepals; 2 petals enclosed within hood and concealed
Leaves: Lower leaves stalked, terminating in blade 2-15 cm (2-6") broad; cleft into usually 5 lobes, dissected into toothed segments; upper leaf-stalks quite short, blades reduced in size
Stems: Sturdy, hollow, woody, may be slightly hairy especially at upper end
Blooming Period: June - August
Habitat: Damp, shady woods and along streambanks
