Leaves: Lower leaves with stalks may be over 18 cm (7") long, marrow, and deeply notched; upper stalkless leaves become progressively smaller and less deeply notched up stem; covered with very short, stiff, pale hairs which give a greyish appearance and a burr-like feel
Stems: Woody and pale grey becoming swollen beneath flower; thickly covered with short, stiff, pale grey hairs; may be several single stems to a plant, freely branching above
Blooming Period: June - September
Habitat: Arid, desert areas in valleys and foothills
