Display: Main Street. At the Heart of the Community

Heritage Display 2015

The display at the District of Lake Country office is a tribute to Heritage Week, February 16 – 22, 2015. This year the theme is Main Street: At the Heart of the Community. Featured in the showcase is the Main Street of a miniature village. The miniature village display was kindly provided by Clark and Darylene Godkin. There are also photographs of our local town centres. Okanagan Centre is pictured in 1908 with the Westbury Hotel and wooden sidewalk as well as Code’s and Strickland’s Stores. Oyama is shown in the 1940s when it had three gas stations and Smith’s General Store. The picture of Winfield shows the businesses along Highway 97, prior to the road widening in 1987.

This display, which contains stained glass buildings, was beautifully created by Museum volunteer Karen Gibbons. This display will be featured during February 2015.
