2000: 2003 - 2004 - Oyama School Goes Traditional

Early in 2003 rumors began circulating that Oyama School would be closed and the grade sevens bussed to George Elliot Secondary School in Winfield. The Oyama Parent Advisory Committee led by President Susan Lawrey led the fight to keep the school.

In September of 2004, Oyama School became a “Traditional” school with school uniforms and a focus on basic academic subjects like mathematics and reading. Students are expected to get above average marks. Discipline in terms of mutual respect for each other and teachers are demanded of students.
