Each Flower: 9 mm (3/8") long and tubular opening into 2 lips, upper lip 2-lobed, lower lip 3-lobed; 5 green, shiny, pointed sepals; opposite pair of bracts below each whorl
Leaves: At base there may be few long, narrow leaves with stalks and 2 or 3 opposite pairs of narrow, pointed leaves not extending further than half-way up stem, up to 6.5 cm (2 1/2") long and 1.5 cm (5/8") wide and stalkless; all leaves are dull green and toothless
Stems: Unbranched, rigid, green, and may be hairy above
Blooming Period: May - August
Habitat: Dry to moist open woods, streambanks from lower to middle mountain elevations
