Each Flower: Up to 2 cm (3/4") across; male and female flowers are separate; 4 narrow petal-like sepals and in female flower many pistils and numerous sterile stamens; male flower has numerous stamens and no pistils
Leaves: On long opposite stalks usually with 2 opposite pairs and 1 terminal leaflet, all egg-shaped and coarsely toothed
Stems: 3-12 m (10-40')
Blooming Period: June - July
Habitat: Sagebrush and ponderosa pine areas
