Each Flower: About 2.5 cm (1") across with 5 petal-like sepals; 1 at top, 2 at sides; 2 at bottom; spur extends backwards and is from as long, to twice as long as blade of upper sepal; smaller petals vary in colour from purplish-blue to whitish, arranged in upper and lower pairs, upper pair short, curved upwards, lower pair deeply 2-lobed, curved downwards, almost furry and covering numerous stamens
Leaves: Lower leaves stalked, stem leaves stalkless; blades 2-8 cm (3/4-3 1/4") broad, dissected into several segments, which are in turn dissected into 2 or 3 long, narrow segments
Stems: Usually unbranched, solid, sturdy; slightly downy, especially towards top
Blooming Period: March - July
Habitat: Dry sagebrush country to middle, more moist elevations
