Each Flower: 3-7 mm (1/8-1/4") across, composed of 6 petal-like segments; inner 3 segments round, with greenish or pinkish central vein; outer 3 segments similar but may be broader or shorter; 9 stamens with reddish anthers and 3-branched style protrude beyond petal-like segments, giving fuzzy appearance; several flowers to small involucre which is bell-shaped and has 5 short, triangular points and small bracts below
Leaves: Basal leaves spatula-shaped with 7-9 mm (1/4-3/8") stalks, and blades about same length and 7 mm (1/4") broad at base, greyish and velvety beneath and less so above
Stems: Several, brittle, grey, velvety, round, thin stems from woody stock, usually branching halfway up, with tiny bracts at stem joints
Blooming Period: June - August
Habitat: Dry to arid sagebrush slopes in rocky or sandy soils
