Each Flower: 4 cm (1 1/2") across on thin stem, backed by 2 pointed, ribbed bracts of unequal length; 6 petals, darker veined, oval and pointed; 3 stamens, partially joined with yellow anthers; pistil with 3-lobed styles
Leaves: 2 or 3 smaller sheath-like leaves at base, longer grass-like leaves up to 10 cm (4") long wrap stem
Stems: Dark green, ribbed, slightly flattened, unbranched
Blooming Period: March - June
Habitat: Moist bunchgrass-sagebrush or drier sagebrush-juniper communities and in open Ponderosa pine forests
