Each Flower: 1 cm (7/16") across, saucer-shaped with pointed petals with pinkish midrib on outside; 2 tiny, red sepals; up to 30 stamens surround 3-lobed, fuzzy-looking pistil; flowers appear to open after mid-day
Leaves: Small elongated, greenish-red, fleshy leaves up to 6 mm (1/4") long in small tufts at ends of short, branched stems, giving cushion-like appearance
Stems: Brown, woody, and rough; up to 6 cm (2 3/8") long and many-branched from long taproot
Blooming Period: Late May - June
Habitat: Bare, arid, exposed rocky summits and slopes. Location: Kamloops (Tranquille Range), Kelowna (McDougall Rim)
