Each Flower: 4-7 mm (3/16-1/4") long, apparently tubular opening into 5 rounded lobes, tube having short, thick spur; 3 stamens. There is no calyx
Leaves: Opposite, lower ones may have short stalks and spatula-shaped blades; upper ones stalkless and blades more oblong, 9 mm-4 cm (3/8-1 1/2") long and 3 mm-1.5 cm (1/8-5/8") broad, may have slightly indented margins; midrib is prominent
Stems: Unbranched, smooth, green, and almost square
Blooming Period: March - June
Habitat: Moist banks and open grassy slopes
