Each Flower: 1-2 cm (3/8-3/4") long, tubular and 5-lobed; 5 stamens, filaments being joined to inside of corolla at lower ends; style is green, fairly thick, and terminates in 2-lobed white stigma; calyx parts joined and 5-lobed and unequal in length, roughly about 1/3 length of corolla and with bluish tinge
Leaves: Basal leaves almost egg-shaped, 5-20 mm (3/16-3/4") long, arranged in rosette; may be 2-4 pairs of opposite stalkless leaves up stem
Stems: From creeping root-stocks, unbranched, smooth, green, and square-section
Blooming Period: July - September
Habitat: Alpine meadows above timberline
