Each Flower: 2 mm (1/10") across with 5 outcurved petals, purple stamens with anthers becoming white in maturity. Arise from broad, papery, ribbed sheaths, becoming rigid and divided into 3 stalks; each again divided bearing finely dissected leaflets.
Leaves: Leaves from base have long, ribbed stalks
Stems: Main stem tough, ribbed, hollow, purplish at base, as are main flower stems
Blooming Period: April - June
Habitat: Open rocky slopes, dry meadows, often with sagebrush and up to moderate elevations
