Each Flower: 1.3-2.5 cm (1/2-1") long, tubular, with 2 lips; upper lip forms hood enclosing 4 stamens, lower lip has broad, fringed central lobe either side; often purplish-tinged; 2-lobed calyx, upper lobe sharply, shallowly 3-toothed, narrow lower lobe, deeply 2-toothed
Leaves: Opposite, with stalks; blades lance-shaped or pointed-oval, 2-9 cm (3/4-3 1/2") long, 7 mm-4 cm (1/4-1 1/2") broad
Stems: Erect or lying on ground, square, slightly hairy
Blooming Period: May - September
Habitat: From lower to middle elevations in damp meadows, lakesides, and streambanks
