Each Flower: 1.3-1.5 cm (1/2-5/8") across with 5, rounded petals; 10 reddish stamens bunched together under top middle petal; long, curved, beak-like style protrudes well beyond petals; 5 yellowish-green sepals
Leaves: Several basal leaves up to 7.5 cm (3") in diameter, round to kidney-shaped or elliptic, shiny, dark green above, dull beneath, often pink-tinged with slightly wavy margins and network of veins giving almost leathery appearance; stalks up to 9 cm (3 1/2") long and triangular in cross-section
Stems: Smooth, often reddish, almost square with 2 or 3 small scale-like bracts
Blooming Period: June - September
Habitat: Moist shady or often open areas, and bogs
