Each Flower: 1.3-3 cm (1/2-1 1/4") long, tubular, opening into 2 lips, upper lip is 2-lobed, lower lip much larger and roundly 3-lobed; throat hairy and often red-spotted; 5-pointed calyx up to 2 cm (3/4") long, ridged and hairy; flower-stems up to 9 mm (3/8") long
Leaves: Opposite, up to 5.7 cm (2 1/4") long, broadly oval, with irregularly dented margins; lower ones taper into short stalk, upper ones smaller and stalkless
Stems: Light green, stout, hollow, and ridged
Blooming Period: March - September
Habitat: Moist to wet, open places from sea level to moderate mountain elevations
