Each Flower: 4 cm (1 1/2") across with 6 long, pointed, shiny tepals completely recurved backwards to show many maroon spots on broader parts; 6 long stamens with yellow to brownish anthers surround robust style almost as long as stamens which hang about 2 cm (3/4") below tepals
Leaves: 1 or 2, pointed, leaf-like bracts at flower-stem branches; may be pair of narrow, pointed leaves further down stem; rest of stem has whorls of 5-9 pointed leaves with midribs; up to 7.5 cm (3") long and 1.5 cm (5/8") broad
Stems: Rigid, round, smooth, and unbranched except for flower-stems
Blooming Period: June - July
Habitat: Moist open woods from low to middle elevations throughout the area
