Each Flower: 2-2.5 cm (3/4-1") across with 4 broad, pointed, petal-like bracts; in centre is a tight cluster of greenish-white, ball-like flowers which later develop into red berries
Leaves: 2-2.5 cm (3/4-1") below the "flower" is whorl of broad, oval, pointed leaves, 2 of which are usually larger than rest; may be 1 or 2 smaller leaves down stem; all leaves appear ribbed with veins and are smooth
Stems: Smooth and reddish, often with opposite pair of brown, papery scales
Blooming Period: June - August
Habitat: Moist woods from low to sub-alpine elevations
