Each Flower: 2 cm (3/4") across with 5 deeply notched, rounded petals which taper to form loose tube surrounded by bladder-shaped 5-pointed calyx, greyish-green and appears mottled by network of light veins, up to 1.5 cm (5/8") long, 3 styles; at flower-stem branches are opposite pairs of tiny leaves
Leaves: Opposite, lance-shaped, and stalkless, lower ones up to 6.5 cm (2 1/2") long and pale, dull green with prominent midribs
Stems: Pale green, round, rigid, and smooth with a hard, small swelling at leaf nodes
Blooming Period: May - July
Habitat: Waste ground, roadsides, and fields at lower elevations
