« Photo Gallery | Smith (William) Album

This album is the property of Bill Smith of White Rock, BC, who has given the Lake Country Museum permission to use the photographs. They were taken by his grandfather, William J. Smith, who immigrated to BC before 1900 and travelled through the Okanagan Valley on his way to the coast. His album contains photographs of Lake Country while it was still cattle country, that is, before much settlement had occurred. Also included are large photographs of the Siege of Alexandria (Egypt) in 1882. The album also includes a great many snapshots of ships, taken on the Atlantic crossing, and of the gold fields of Cassiar, where he lived for many years.
