A big THANK YOU to Lake Country volunteers

Over the years we have been so fortunate to have good volunteers at the Lake Country Museum and Archives. On the website longtime volunteers Harvey Lamont and Karen Gibbons have been featured and they still spend numerous hours volunteering for our Museum. There are, of course, many other volunteers who deserve thanks and recognition, especially during Volunteer Week.

Volunteers at Lake Country Museum and Archives

Sharon Laing has lived all over the world with her Air Force husband. A retired nurse, she now has “retired” to their orchard where she focusses on her grandchildren and her role as family historian. For many years Sharon has volunteered at the Museum working with archival materials. She deals with maps and documents, accessioning and preserving them.

Ann Nott, a retired teacher, has taught in Canada and Japan. She has lived in many parts of the world and continues to enjoy travelling. She also enjoys golf and gardening, but fortunately, she volunteers regularly at the Museum as well. While there, Ann’s work focusses on the “People of Lake Country” file and as well, she is the chairperson of the public lecture committee.

Miriam Bowles brings her library skills to the Museum’s archives. She is a retired librarian who is working on accessioning the major new collections as they come into the Museum. Miriam is a traveller, hiker, and an avid Scrabble player.

Glen Gibbons does much of the photography of the collections as his work focusses more on the curatorial side of the Museum. He assists the curator with displays and organization of material storage at the Museum. On the side, this retired high school science teacher races vintage cars and recently set a new speed record.

We couldn’t exist without our volunteers and we are so thankful for all that they do. They do varied and interesting things and they are interesting people — just the kind of people with whom you’d enjoy working. Care to join us?

    • Yes, we would be hard pressed to do what we do without them, and all the other wonderful volunteers in our museum community.
